Our Mission
The mission of FreelanceAustin is to provide a low-cost, casual forum where creative, self-employed professionals can meet to share leads, ideas and experiences. Although many members are writers and editors, our group includes creative professionals from a variety of disciplines, from graphic designers to Web developers, photographers and high-tech marcom specialists.
What We Do
In short, we network with one another and we support each another! Many beneficial alliances have resulted from our monthly get-togethers, the second Wednesday of each month. Attendees are encouraged to exchange business cards and make brief
introductions before and after meetings.
Programs feature diverse topics relevant to the business of being a freelancer: getting and retaining clients, managing a small business, marketing, legal issues, tax tips, motivation, creativity and many more. Sometimes we simply bring our own problem
and ask the group for solutions.
Our volunteer Board meets regularly to organize the group, coordinate and publicize meetings and address membership concerns.
Our History
FreelanceAustin was founded in 1992 by Patricia DeNucci, owner of DeNucci & Co. Then called the First Tuesday Freelancers, the group was primarily a support group for freelance writers and communicators. In 1995, the organization became affiliated with AWiC, and membership has expanded to include a wider variety of over 100 independent professionals.
In 1999, the FreelanceAustin membership directory became available in print form, and by January 2001, the group launched a new Web site featuring a downloadable membership directory. |
